Hope Valley Flying Geese Pinwheel and Bliss Stars Quilt Tops

I put 2 tops together in the last few days. They are small tops but I am happy that I am working on my WIP pile. I finished my Hope Valley Flying Geese Pinwheel quilt top.

I had to make 2 more blocks and I had run out of Kona Bone. So I picked some up a few months ago. It is just off in color a bit from the batch I used before. That was a few years ago though, so I guess that's the reason.

I am really pleased with the way this one is turning out. It's a lot brighter than I had originally thought it would be and  I love that. (it's windy today!)

I also got my Bliss Stars put together. I can't say that I am in love with this one. I don't care for the secondary pattern the stars make.

I should have added sashing. I'm hoping that some nice big colorful quilting stitches using embroidery floss will fill in that negative space.

My new strategy for not starting so many new projects is to get my current WIP list taken care of and to use my notebooks to keep track and draw out all of the new things I want to start (there are so many), instead of just jumping right on something new. Later, if I go back and still want to start what I drew up then I'll go for it. I'm hoping this will help me to prioritize so that I don't end up with so many WIPs and projects. I'll have to exercise some restraint. No fun and I'm not very good at it. I'll try :)

It is so hard for me to finish what I am working on before I start something new, but I don't want a bunch of UFO's in my stash either.

I'm working on UFO control. Your system sounds like a good one - keep us posted on how it works out for you. I have to force myself to pull out a UFO and at least do something with it before I start something new. It's actually worked out well - I rediscover at least some of the passion I had for it when I started.
But then I eat my least favorite Skittles first and save the red ones for last as a reward. Crazy that way!

They're both great. I particularly like that flying geese pinwheel top. The other is neat too, and I kind of like the secondary pattern that it gives, though it may not be what you envisioned. You could look at that one in several different ways which is kind of neat!

I, for one, love the negative space created by your star design! You know where to send it now. {grin} The Hope Valley Flying Geese is awesome, too! You are rockin'!

I LOVE the Hope Valley! Thank you for doing a post on it and answering my question
the other day! I'm so glad you finished the top, I can't wait to start on one similar.

I'm excited to see the colorful quilting stitches on the bliss stars top - I think that will look great! And I have never seen pinwheels like that - I love them!
A notebook is such a great idea for keeping on track and getting WIPs done, thanks for sharing!

Prioritizing and exercising restraint are both challenges for me too. In fact, I've met very few quilters for whom this isn't an ongoing problem. I'm with you - I'm finishing up what I have before getting new stuff or starting somethign new because when too much piles up - it sort of nags at me and I have to find places to hide those piles waiting to be stitched into something. I'm running out of cupboard space. I think both your quilt tops here are adorable, BTW.

Your bliss quilt will be lovely with some hand stitching. I used Bliss in a jellyroll quilt last year and I quite like the fabric. As a side note, did I tell you my hubby's name is Bliss?

I love the flying geese pinwheel top! Great job! I think some hand stitching on the Bliss top will make it fabulous and give it more character. Hand quilting always adds a special touch and brings a new dynamic to quilts. :)

Both tops are gorgeous! I also love the background you choose for your photots. I yearn for a barn to be within my sight daily.

I'm trying to do the same thing with WIPs as you, except I do let a few new ones in. I do carry a sketchbook with me at all times to put down ideas so I can come back to them.
