First Quilt ...10 years ago

Randi posted about her first quilts. I love seeing peoples first quilts. I thought I might post mine. Be warned. It is BAD!

I always wanted to make a quilt. Living where I do, I see many beautiful Amish made quilts. I knew I would never pay for one though. I have ALWAYS been a do-it-yourselfer. I bought a book from Walmart, some fabric and got started. I had no idea what I was doing. I paid no attention to seam allowance, I had to use templates, which I cut carelessly, I had no rotary cutter. I used scissors, cut the sashing that way too. Interestingly though, i mitered the corners and border. Weird. I think It is the only quilt I've ever done that way. It has no binding as I used the birthing method instead.  I started to machine quilt it and then stopped. My machine had horrible tension and I didn't know how to adjust anything. Oh how we learn :)
I really can't believe I'm posting this funky thang!!!!

Oh, I remember those days. It's amazing how far quilting has progressed - it's now so much fun!

It looks great! :) I love looking back, even when past projects show how much I didn't know.

I must say your first quilt looks a whole lot better than mine. But, I was so proud of it when I was finished. Thanks for the memories.

Oh, gosh, Erin, we all start somewhere, and it's usually a horrible place that we start in. I think yours looks pretty good. The piecing isn't half bad, and this isn't an easy quilt to start with. Hm. I wonder what I would count as my first quilt and if I would have the guts to blog about it. ;)

Geez, at least you finished yours! My first quilt is still uncompleted. Because it used non-quilt-shop fabric, if you know what I mean, I think I was afraid to finish it and show it to anyone who knows quilts. But, with age and experience, I've become a rebel (of sorts) so maybe I'll finish it now. LOL!

I love the colors though. I cannot stand my first quilt. It is our outside quilt now. Stain that thing up, I couldn't care less.
