Bella Skill Builder Quilt Along

Hello! Today Fat Quarter Shop released the first free pattern for the Bella Skill Builder quilt along. The quilt was designed exclusively for Fat Quarter Shop by the very talented Sherri McConnell and it's made with all Bella Solids. The quilt along starts today and will go to November with a new pattern released each month.

I'm looking forward to making this quilt. I have only made one quilt from solids and that was when I first started quilting.

I chose a similar color palette as Sherri's quilt with a few changes. I used some Bonnie and Camille bundles from Fat Quarter Shop to make my fabric choices. I have a few extra than called for to play around with.

Here are my first blocks finished for the quilt along! I used Aqua and Ruby Ice Bella Solids for them. There isn't as much contrast as the original blocks but I do really like them!

The centers and lining up seams can be a bit tricky on these. Mine are FAR from perfect but it was nice to piece these traditionally instead of paper piecing which is how I've made the block in the past.

Ducks like quilt blocks too! :)

Quilt Petite Blog Tour

Hello! Today is my stop on the Quilt Petite Blog Tour celebrating the beautiful new book by my friend Sedef Imer of Down Grapevine Lane.

I have loved Sedef's work for a long time. Her book has the sweetest projects with such pretty pictures. She is such a talented lady and I am so happy that she wrote a book to share that talent with all of us.

The projects are adorable. There are mini quilts, pillows and home goods.  It was fun choosing what to make for the blog hop and I know I'll be making things from the book for gifts too.
I loved this quilt from the book. Isn't it the sweetest?!

I've been making a stash of pillows this past year, or trying to at least, and I thought I'd take the "bakery" block from the quilt and turn it into a pillow.
The directions were clear for the piecing and the templates were great.Of course,  I love using the free motion applique technique on this project.

I tried to make bakery nearly identical to Sedef's bakery in the book because I thought it was just perfect and I loved the colors she used. I was happy to use some of her pretty Sweet Orchard fabric.

I was going to use pom-poms for the edge of the pillow but decided to use this cute older Lecien polka dot print to make a ruffle instead. Doesn't it look like sprinkles? I thought that was just right for the bakery!

Check out the pretty makes form others in the blog hop! And be sure to go to Sedef's blog to enter her lovely giveaway full of lots zakka goodies, fabric and a copy of her book!!

First Blush Blog Hop & Giveaway

Hello! Today is my stop on the First Blush Blog Hop. First Blush is the debut fabric line by Ruby Red Designs for Windham Fabrics.

I fell in love with these gorgeous colors as soon as I saw the bundle of fabric that Windham had sent me. They're really vibrant but sweet and have such a great vintage look to them.

I wanted to use a traditional block and make a quilt with my bundle. I chose a flower block and paired two prints together saving all the green prints for the leaves. I had all of my floral blocks made and it just needed something more.

I decided to make some alternating chain blocks to increase the size. I originally thought I was going to go with a very scrappy look with the chains but instead I chose all the reds and light blues to "anchor" the scrappiness of the rest of the quilt. My daughter and I loved this one so much that I plan on making it even bigger

There is also a new First Blush Block of the Month happening, which is designed by It’s Sew Emma and uses a special 30 degree Starburst ruler by Creative Grids.

Windham and Aurifil have a fantastic giveaway for you all! Everyday of the blog hop they are giving a way a full fat quarter bundle of First Blush and a matching Aurifil thread set. How awesome is that!?!

AGF Timber Quilt

Good morning! I am so excited to share with you the quilt I made using the free pattern called Timber by Art Gallery Fabrics and Fat Quarter Shop. It's one of the many free patterns in the AGF stitched with Kimberly series.

I love this pattern. It's so easy to cut, piece and sew. The blocks are big and go together in a snap, making a nice sized quilt that measures 64.5" x 80.5".

Kimberly used Heartland fabrics by Pat Bravo for her quilt. There is a kit available for it HERE.  For my quilt I used Amy Sinibaldi's pretty Playground fabric.

I was so anxious to finally see it up close and work with it. I love how it turned out! My middle daughter claimed this quilt as soon as the fabric came.

The color combination in this block is my fave. These two fabrics look so sweet together.

This is such a fun and versatile pattern. It's a fun twist on a modern plus quilt.

Here is the link for the free pdf pattern.

Lovely Little Patchwork Blog Tour ~ Sew Along

Hello! Today I'm so happy to share with you a little project I made from my friend Kerri Horsley's wonderful book Lovely Little Patchwork ~ 18 Projects to Sew Through the Seasons.

I have been such a fan of Kerri's work for years. She has such a great eye for color and fabulous taste in fabrics. Her book is full of beautiful projects with just as beautiful pictures and graphics. It's a feast for your eyes.

I wanted to make everything from the book! I hope I eventually get the chance to. For today's post though, since it's fall, I chose the Patchwork Pumpkin & Maple Leaf Placemat.

I think it is such an adorable project and it also gave me the chance to work with colors I don't tend to use very much.

I haven't played with my stash in a long time. It was fun to pull out some much loved Japanese prints, reproductions and OOP fabrics that I've collected.

I love the pockets for the napkin and utensils.

It's such a fun touch to add to the placemat. The pumpkin maple leaf block is so cute too!  I'd love to use this block for a matching fall tablerunner.

have plans to make this sweet sewing kit next. It's just beautiful.

Check out what others have made from Kerri's Lovely Little Patchwork book!
