During winter break I was digging through some old quilt books, magazines and papers. I found numerous lists for quilts I want to make. You know those lists, right? Well over the years, of course, the lists have changed but there were a few quilts that were on every single list. I've decided to concentrate my sewing efforts into making those quilts. This means I can't jump into every quilt along that I want to. Boy, is that hard? Especially on Instagram, there are some awesome quilt alongs.
The first quilt I decided to tackle was the Clamshell quilt. I've wanted to make one since I started quilting. My oldest list is from 2002, so I think it's about time. This quilt will take some time because it will be done by hand. I have no expectations for size, really, I just want to work on it until I'm satisfied. I'm using glue to baste them. It's a first for me. I'll let you know how it goes. So far I like how fast it is.
So, do you have any quilts that you want to make but just keep putting it off? What keeps you from making them? I'd love to hear about the quilts you have on your list! Here are the ones that have been on every single list I make.
Clamshell
Tumbler
Applecore
Courthouse Steps
Postage Stamp
Baskets
Happy sewing!

Erin, all those have been on my list too! I have made quilts or in the case of the clamshell, a pillow, from all those designs now except for the postage stamp. I'd still like to do that.
Really pretty so far Erin!
I don't really have a list, I just do whatever strikes my fancy at the moment!
I don't know why but as soon as I saw your first clamshells they made me feel really happy. It's going to be a great quilt
goodness i have so many differnet lists of what quilts i want to make but it is ever changing....those clamshells look hard!!!
I've never written down a list before, but there is a cherry quilt from Podunk Pretties I want to make, and a log cabin, Grandmother's flower garden (started but messed up and needs to be fixed)small rail fence, and a pastel colored trip around the world quilt.
I love your clam shells!
I was just going through my lists, patterns, books and scrappy lists that I have all over the place trying to decide! I do think your idea is the best yet! I love your clamshells!!
Your clamshells are so pretty and I am looking forward to seeing your progress on the quilt! First, I can't wait to finish my hexie flower quilt, then I would love to make a diamond stars, Sunbonnet Sue,which I have all the Sues, just need to put it together, and a dresden plate quilt. ;) Have a sweet and crafty week! xo Heather
oh, my!!! this is already looking amazing. I've been thinking about a clamshell quilt for quite some time. Yours is making me give it a try right now :)
i love how you are alternating rows of colored background with white background! a clamshell something (cushion or quilt) have been on my list forever along with a hexie and cathedral window quilt FOREVER. i have wanted to make them because i love them as well as for the challenge. They always get bumped since they would be for me and instead i make quilts for other people :) one day.......
Beautiful clamshells. Curves scare me (mostly because I've never worked up the guts to try them) and so I'm always a little in awe of curved piecing. What a great idea to really focus on the quilts that you've been drawn to year after year.
For me there are a few quilts that are always on the list. A Swoon, which is waiting for fabrics and properly having the space for it (first quilt I'll be making once I move), a double wedding ring, a Drunkard's Path (and the dreaded curves) as well as some sort of EPP. I like hand work but the basting turns me off EPP, and the results are so good. I also want to make a Tardis quilt and a Valentino Rossi racing mini quilt.
Mostly, they wait for me to feel like my skill has even begun to catch up with my vision. The ones that I'm most excited about I also don't want to screw up.
Those blocks sure look great, Erin! I don't have a list on paper... But my mental list includes a Clamshell
and an Applecore quilt. This week I am working on an Equilateral Triangle quilt!
Love your clamshells! I have an ever-growing and changing mental list of quilts I want to make, but a clamshell quilt has been near the top for some time! Can't wait to see your finished quilt.

That is a grande idea to do the quilts that keep going around and around in your head. I will have to keep that in mind;)
Literally, you cut out the clam shells and then glue them together??
Postage stamp for sure. I have so many UFO's that I don't dare start a postage stamp. I really want to hand quilt it, so we will see if I get to it this year!
Hi Erin:
I love your list and I have one, too!
Cathedral Window, Log Cabin, Compass Rose and Wedding Ring. Curves! All of them have curves. AAAAAARRRRgggggHHHH!
One of these days. Really. I'm going to do each of these...one of these days. I love your Clamshells, btw. I think I may need to add this to the list.

Your clamshells, like everything else, are so pretty! As for my list, Dresden plate and double wedding ring are constants. In fact, you've inspired me! It's time I finished my Dresden and started my double wedding ring!
Dresden Plate, Schoolhouse, Winding Ways and Storm at Sea :)
Um, yes... the list is endless. But I think I've found the slow process of making them all to be enjoyable. (I think!) You know as opposed to making them all at once!
Love the clamshell...I am not sure I could do it, short attention span.
I love the clamshell, but it does look very intense! Thanks for linking up with the hop, I enjoyed seeing your list!!
Beautiful shells! And wow, you have an intensive list! A few of those - like the apple core - I love the look of BUT not sure I'm brave enough to tackle. Good luck and have fun sewing!
I LOVE your clamshells, they are so pretty. I would like to make quite a long term quilt that there's no pressure to finish. I like being able to pick things up when I like and let them progress slowly.
I love the clamshells. I have some shells cut to sew together just haven't had time. Gotta work on that.
What a neat clamshell! I just finished a clamshell pillow and I raw-edge appliqued it.
your clamshells are pretty. There are no handpieced quilts on my list at all. Maybe that'll change in the future but I'm too impatient for that!
