I feel like I didn't make much progress in the WIP department this week. I showed you the Swimming Sisters quilt already. I was really happy to finish that and it felt good to quilt something!!!
I also finished up my project for the
Farmer's Wife in Your Life blog hop. Here 's a little sneak peak. My tutorial is this Friday.
I'm working on my
hand pieced block for this week. I realize my green sprouts are not directionally correct but I am working with scraps and I just cut where I could. Altough I have a bit of the new FMF coming my way so I may rework this one (if the direction thing starts to bother me and if the greens look enough alike). I will still be putting up the new block Friday. I'm going to try that auto draft thing blogger has. So I can prepare ahead of time for 2 posts in one day :)
Here is the project taking most of my attention right now. This hand pieced quilt. I'm attaching the binding and it just doesn't seem right to me. I originally chose the pink with polka dots. Then decided I needed something darker to frame it. I thought the brown would be good because of the brown center block. But now I really feel like the pink would look better and keep with the overall soft look. I don't know, what do you think? Brown, pink, neither?

Hmmmmmmm.......Boy I can see where you are struggling with that decision. I like the brown to make the darker colors pop a bit but that shade is maybe too dark? The pink is very soft and pretty, so I guess my vote is the pink. :) Good luck and I cant wait to see what you decide.
ReplyDeleteOh I am seriously in love with your wonky stars quilt!! Most excellent job. :) And I adore your churn dashes. Do you mind sharing what size they are? I may have to cut me some to hand-piece. I think the Churn Dash is my most favorite block of all of the zillions of blocks around. :) Lovely colors in this one too.
ReplyDeleteI assume you mean "binding" help instead of "binfing" - I an a relatively novice quilter so terms (BOM, HST, etc). I prefer the brown over the pink but I think the brown is too dark and pink is too light. Do you have a washed out red that would bring out the red block and the printed roses in the others?

ReplyDeletebeautiful wonky stars quilt! i agree with the others so far, the brown looks a tad bit too dark/saturated, maybe a lighter more subdued brown would work better, but I also agree with Amy on the little red floral. goo luck sorting it out!

ReplyDeleteI'm thinking about red for the binding, a la that one block. The brown I find to be a bit too jarring for the soft look of this project.

Your tutorial looks fun for Friday! I always love everything you make and you are so good with color. I think both binding choices look good and it depends what you want the "feel" of the quilt to be. The brown gives it more of a frame that pops and a vintage feel. The pink gives more of a soft feel and blends into the quilt. Have a great day!

ReplyDeleteNot the brown. The pink definitely keeps it in a "soft" place. But maybe a faded reddish color like others have said. But if it's between the two, I'd say pink for sure :)
ReplyDeleteAgree with that the brown is to dark and the pink to light...hadn't thought of a soft red, but it would be nice...or a dark tan...or a dark pink...can't wait to see what you decide!

ReplyDeleteLove all your projects! Binding is always a dilemma for me as well, and it is so important! I agree that the brown is too much. I kinda like the softness of the pink too. Hadn't thought of red, but it would certainly add a bold frame which may be what it needs. Not much help, but good luck with your choice. Looking forward to seeing what you do!

I think the same as you said - pink is too light (it will disappear) and the brown is too dark. I agree with Jacque - lighter brown with some print could be nice or some soft a little bit darker red as some little flowers in those upper blocks! Good luck - it's going to be beautiful and very special! x Teje

ReplyDeleteI really love this quilt. While I agree with the others the brown would be too dark/too much as binding, maybe it's the only solid brown you have? But why not add just a tiny bit of the brown (maybe won't be so overwhelming) as a flange and then use the pink as binding? JaybirdQuilts blog has an awesome tutorial - I used it on the first quilt I ever made!
ReplyDeleteI love your projects, your block looks great, don't worry about changing it! So with the binding I would go with the green that's in one of your blocks, or the brown. I really like the soft look of the quilt. Good luck!

I'm a red lover but on this quilt it has to be the pink.
ReplyDeleteI love brown but I think brown's not the best choice for this particular quilt. One of the medium shades in the quilt would be my best guess. I think the red (if it's the same intensity as the block) might show up just as much as the brown. The quilt is so soothing and will provide someone with much cuddling and comfort.
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet quilt! I immediately thought a brown dotted fabric like the brown block. The solid brown you have is too saturated and I think the pink is a little, well, too pink for your quilt.

I would say something in the middle--a slightly darker pink or a paler brown. Some help I am. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm leaning to either a salmon or faded red - still gives the border the look of a frame, but it won't be as stark as the brown....
