I have pretty much taught myself to sew...but I did once take a hand quilting class...
lisadpope(at)yahoo(dot)com
great picks -- i love the hope valley collection! like many others, i learned to sew from my mom -- she always encouraged me growing up to sew clothes. she now lives (too) far away from me, but i still go out for sewing weekends, and always come home with more fabric than i can fit in my bag!
My grandmother was a seamstress to support her family, and my Mother got me started as a little girl sewing clothes for my dolls after simple patterns she drew. But really, who has really gotten me back into sewing is my daughter, who i love to create for!
beautiful.
thank you

lovely fabrics!
to be honest my husband kept encouraging me to just sew my own stuff instead of buying it and I got hooked!
my mom taught me to sew and quilt when i was 10 and i have been sewing since

Great fabric! Sat watching my mama and aunties sew as a wee one and now here I am.
My mother, she died too young, was a crafter.....
Sewing, for me, is a great distraction from anxiety and depression.
Thanks for the giveaway!

Love these fabrics!! I acutally got into sewing b/c a bunch of my friends are super crafty, and they started sewing so many great things for their house/children. Once I moved to a house, I started to learn so I could make my own curtains, etc. Thanks for the great giveaway! I hope I win!
I started sewing because all my pants had to be shortened - I'm only 4'11"
I love your collection of fabrics-I hope I win, thank you
I got interested in sewing garments and quilts from my mom, and hand quilting from my grandma
My aunt is an amazing sewist and I've always been in awe of her talent. I really got into it though after I had my daughter because I wanted to be able to make cute stuff for her!

I have always been interested in sewing but not due to knowing anyone who sewed. My friend's mom has an amazing sewing machine and lets me use it sometimes. I look to her for inspiration now
Ooooh. Lovely, lovely fabric~ Thanks for sharing with us!
My grandmother gave me a rotary cutter, mat and quilting book for my 13th birthday, handed me some fabric and told me to get to it! I wasn't really impressed at the time, and never finished the quilt, but 8 years later I found everything stashed away and pulled it out again and have been hooked ever since.
fantastic giveaway! the fabrics are to die for! and I'm teaching myself how to sew :)
My mother taught me to sew when I was a little girl!
Great giveaway! Tanks
My grandmother taught me to sew years and years and years ago. Then I grew up, didn't see her as often, and lost touch with sewing. Then a few years ago I happened upon a fabric store somewhere and on a whim purchased my own sewing machine. It's been my obsession since.
My mother also sews, but she quilts and sews normal clothes (well, and couture -- she's made suits for herself and my wedding dress), and I sew elaborate costumes and bags and baby blankets. So we make different things, but she taught me the idea.
hello! these happen to be my favourite fabrics, so you must tell the random thingy to pick me, ok?
now that we got that part settled, i'll tell you something about my sewing history. i decided to ask for a sewing machine for my birthday and then i started taking some sewing and patchwork classes. this is somehting that is not that common where i live (portugal) and people find me strange and call me granny sometimes. actually my granny was into sewing and she was very talented. my sewing machine even has her name (aurora) wich is a funny coincidence, i think.
Great giveaway!I'm just starting to get into sewing. I haven't really done anything yet.

I got into quilting about 12 years ago. A girl I worked with had offered to make a baby quilt for another co-worker's teenage daughter who was having a baby. The two co-workers got into a tiff, and there was no more quilt to be made.
So I handquilted a fabric panel, and that was the beginning of my quilting.
Count me in on your giveaway - I love to play with this!
My mom always sewed while I was growing up--I think that's how I became interested. I only started sewing 2 years ago, but I love it! Thanks for the chance!
Thanks for the chance for some great fabric, wonderful selection. My mom always sewed, then when I moved away I went to a fabric store and bought a quilt book and some fabric (not the best fabric, you learn as yo go right!) that was in '89 and I have been hooked ever since.
great fabrics!! my mom taught me the basics of sewing when i was a teenager, but a few years ago i got interested in sewing and pretty much figured stuff out on my own from looking at all the fabulous eye-candy sewing blogs. :)

I learned to sew in home ec and I'm still learning. :) Thanks for the giveaway.
I don't know what got me into quilting, actually. My mom taught me to sew when I was little, but I didn't care much about it until a few years ago. Then last year I found quilting and that's been the motivating factor to get me sewing!
If you haven't already, check out my fabric giveaway at http://pitterputterstitch.blogspot.com.
I started teaching myself to sew from tutorials on sewing blogs, etc. last year and have been having lots of fun and laughs at my creations. Thanks for the giveaway.

Love this fabric! My Mom has sewn all my life. She made my clothes, quilts and clothes for my children. So, when my daughter was expecting it just seemed natural that I make her maternity dresses and then my grand daughter's dresses and of course made my grand daughter the first quilt I ever made. I actually hated sewing when I was younger - no patience. But now it's like breathing, can't do without it. I'm a fifth generation quilter and quilt with my Mom who is now 82. Thanks for the giveaway!

I started when I was 10--my mom made me! I'm glad she did though.
What a great giveaway! Thank you for the chance to win!
My older sister (8 years older) taught me to love sewing. She was always sewing while I was growing up - her prom dresses, our halloween costumes, fun summer shorts.
My mom taught me how to sew when I was a kid. Go figure that I didn't really get into it until I became a mom. LOL
Hmm ...I wanted to buy a quilt in Lancaster, PA and couldn't afford it so I learned how to quilt. Thanks for the great giveaway!

My interest came from the time I spent with my maternal grandmother. Thanks for the giveaway!
Polka dots! I want to have polka dots! How I got into sewing? Well, my mom used to sew a lot when I was little, and then a few years ago I decided I could do it too after seeing my best friend taking sewing lessons.
I needed a gift for a new baby & didn't want to buy anything so I stopped by my grandmothers, raided her stash and forced her to teach me to quilt!
Thanks for the generous giveaway!!
great giveaway! thanks for the chance to win!
crossing my fingers!
I got interested in sewing because I wanted some baby legs for my son, but didn't want to shell out that much money. I had my husband get his grandma's sewing machine for me. (It had been sitting there for years since she passed away) Then I just messed around and tried things out for awhile until I got the hang of things.

I got started quilting a long time ago, I don't know what year it was. They offered a quilting class at my church and I went! I didn't actually finish the project I started in that class for years, not until I met my friend Marj and she helped me finish it. Thanks to her and Thank you for the chance to win some great fabric. stephspitzer at gmail dot com

There are so many comments on the fabric giveaways - goodness gracious, you'd think we all didn't have any ourselves! I started quilting after my kids were born 9 years ago as a way to get some "me" time one evening a month at the beginners class. Well, it's been ME time ever since!!!
Please stop by and visit to enter my mini quilt giveaway, too!
Gorgeous fabric :)
Cute fabrics :) I wanted to learn to sew as a child and with help from my mother I made 1 thing. Now I'm learning myself how to make bags and I want to learn to quilt
Thank you for this giveaway! I come from a family of sewers, but i never really cared for it growing up. I admired it, respected it, but didnt have the patience for it (they are all quilters - handquilting and recently one has moved onto big machine quilting). Ive always been crafty in other ways though and eventually i was turned on to handsewing small projects which quickly grew to needing a sewing machine and now thats becoming a need for all the associated sewing things! Yay for evolution! :)
My mom and my granny taught me when I was very little. I have some early memories of cutting quilts and sewing blocks together.
When I saw the fabric you chose for the giveaway, my heart *actually* went pitter patter.

I started sewing because I was tired of not finding really cool pillowcases. My mother taught my how to sew.

What a great giveaway, thankyou! My Great Auntie Emmie got me started embroidering, it was very rare to see her without either a needle or a pack of cards in her hands!

These are great fabrics... thank you so much for giving this away... I would love to win it!
I've been sewing since I was a little girl. My mom taught me. She sews and so did my grandmother. My first creation was a hand sewn felt Pooh bear with a red vest. I still have him somewhere up in the attic!
Quilting is just something I always thought was cool but beyond my ability to learn. Then I started reading Amanda Jean's blog (crazymomquilts) and she just made it seem to doable... so in the fall of 2008 I bought some fabrics and jumped in. My first quilt was really rather terrible, but I'm (slowly) getting better, and oh do I enjoy it!
I took a quilting class and learned on my own. I was inspired by seeing all the beautiful things on blogs and my husband finally said - why don't you spend a little less time reading blogs, and some time actually sewing? So I did :) Except these past three days of course, ha! Beautiful fabric!

Thanks for the opportunity :)
Wow, I just got confirmation that I'm into this quilting thing really deep: I could name the designers/lines of all four of those fabrics without the caption!
I used to sit and watch my grandma sew and she inspired me.

What a great fabric combo, it's a little bit of everything. Thanks for giving it away!

I have sewn baby blankets for years about a year ago a friend encouraged me to make a baby quilt instead. OH my! I never knew how much fun sewing can be. I am totally hooked..a goner!
I found an online tutorial for a hexagonal quilt with a star of david in the center. In a moment of pre-wedding madness I decided to make it the center of my Huppah (Jewish wedding canopy). Was a crazy amount of work, but I love the result.
I taught myself how to quilt with LOTS of help from all the fabulous bloggers out there. What a great giveaway!
these fq are fab
I've always been into fabric and handcrafts, but it's Kaffe's fault that I got into quilting
love the soft oranges!
Thanks for the chance!

My mom got me interested in tole painting but was never a big fan of sewing, so I only ever sewed a couple of things with her. After I got married and, for various reasons, ended up a housewife with no children, I wanted something to occupy my time. I took up knitting, then when I actually had a baby, spent a lot of time surfing craft blogs while nursing and lo and behold? There was a whole world of beautiful sewing to be done! I now dabble in all the crafts I can get my hands on, though I haven't really been involved with quilting yet (soon, though... soon).
About 3 years ago, I decided that I wanted to learn to sew. My parents bought me a machine for my birthday and I made a baby quilt. I have done more since then, and finding internet tutorials has been immensely helpful! Thanks for the giveaway!
my nana taught me to quilt when i was 16 :)
thank you for making giveaway day as awesome as it is! :)

What darling fabrics! My mom and my grandma taught me to sew. My mom sewed a lot of my clothes when I was little, and when I was about 10, my grandma showed me how to hand-sew some little things like doll clothes and gave me full access to her scrap bag! Thank you so much!
What fabulous fabrics! Thanks for great giveaway! My mom put me on her lap when I was 5 and had me sew a barbie blanket for my sister. When I was 11, my grandma helped me make some shorts complete with a zipper. And I have just continued to sew off and on.
Love the fabric choices!
Thanks!
Oooh, gorgeous fabrics! I sewed for 4-H as a kid, but just started again about a year ago when I was dragged to a quilt shop by my mother-in-law and they had a $1 fat quarter sale!
My mom taught me sewing! My first "project" was zigzagging the edges of old cut towels for cleaning cloths at age 5. The funniest was probably the very long, narrow "skirt" with a point at the front and back that happened when I misunderstood the directions for sewing pants...
My mom sat me by our fireplace and showed me how to sew those cardboard cards with the shoe laces. I was more interested in the perfect little circles that would pop out of the them the first time you used them, and then it was a bit anticlimatic after that.... I'm a sucker for confetti!

I learned in Home Ec class...I wasn't very good but over the years I have improved.

I'm still attempting to learn to quilt properly. My mother taught me to sew when I was around 7 and even though I now have a sewing machine, I love to sew things by hand just for the nostalgic value of it all. Thanks!
