Such pretty fabric! I did some sewing at high school, and with my Mum, but have only really learnt how to sew properly by teaching myself (in my 30s). Gotta love the internet!

My mom began teaching me to sew when I was 8. I've been hooked ever since!
I got into sewing in 8th grade when I took sewing as a middle school elective. I was a total math/science girl... I had no idea I'd like something so domestic this much! But I've been sewing off and on ever since :)

Lovely giveaway! Thanks for a chance to win. My daughter is the reason I quilt. When she was 16, she decided she wanted to make a quilt. Although I have done tons of sewing, I'd never made a quilt! Well, it is 11 years later and we are both quilting addicted!
what a great giveaway- my mom taught me a little about quilting and I like it.
Great prizes! I basically taught myself, but my mom used to sew, so she can help if I need it. Thank you!

I joined 4-H when I was 8 and desperately wanted to learn to sew, so my mom and grandma teamed up to teach me. It was a memorable process, and I'm so grateful now to have learned!
Great giveaway! I learned to sew from my mom, but I taught myself quilting using online resources.
great giveaway. love the fabrics
Thank you so much for the chance to win those beautiful fabrics.
I was taught how to sew at school, but didn't touch a sewing machine again until 1 1/2 years ago (so 20 plus years - yikes), now I am so hooked it's just a wee bit insane LOL>
Lovely! My grandma did not sew, but my mom learned in Home Ec and made most of my clothes--however, she had little patience for teaching me, so I learned in Adult Ed! Funny! Thanks for the nice giveaway...I'm playing along, too, at my blog Foziewisp...come visit!
My mom was a sewer..been sewing since I was 10!
I simply adore these fabrics!!
My Mom taught me to sew when I was about 5 years old. We still sew together, 29 years later. :)
Thank you. I started sewing as a kid, but kind of hated it. I really started up when I had a daughter - it's fun to make adorable little dresses. Then, the internet got me hooked on quilting.
I learned a love of fabric and sewing from my dear mother. I fell in love with quiting through my friendship with a retired couple in Beaver, PA who quilted together. They were so sweet! They helped me create my first quilt.

girls clothes (well, dresses) are my passion. I started sewing two years ago, mostly from trial and error, and I love it so!
Thanks for the chance to win!
I was stalking Emilie Ahern's blog and she mentioned the 1 million pillowcase challenge...I don't know how it rolled from her to all these blogs I religiously stalk everyday but found some really good blogs with great tutorials so I'm working on a quilt right now that was a tutorial on the Moda Bake Shop called charity crosses. I'm using Martinique and I love it!!!
lovely fabrics. I got started quilting in 1991. I think i got the gene from my great grandmother who was a prolific quilter. I have a number of her quilts.
Wonderful fabric, thank you so much for having this give away! Sharonj.
Nice giveaway! Fabric is always wanted around here :) I started sewing when I was 11 and got interested in quilting about 10 years ago. Can't get enough of it, especially since I now have my own sewing room.
My Mom taught me to sew when I was younger and I mostly made scrunchies (it was the early 90's). :)

My grandma instilled in me my love for sewing and all things crafty. we lived down the street from her so I spent alot of time at my grandparents house. i would help her lay out quilts for her quilting group at church. I remember that she got me this cool kids sewing machine that sewed yarn into paper.
Thanks for the giveaway! I started to sew after I found out I was expecting a baby girl (my second pregnancy) and never stopped:)

Ohhh - very pretty! Thanks for the chance to win!
My mama taught me to sew when I was fairly young, and I sewed off and on over the years, but it was when I had children that the sewing really took off! Little girls are so much fun to sew for!
Fabulous fabric! I didn't start sewing until I was pregnant with my second child. A wonderful friend bulldozed over my intimidation with her confidence and taught me to sew a crib set :)
Ooooh nice giveaway! I started sewing when I saw all the cute things some of my online friends were making for their kids- I decided I wanted to give it a try!
I love it! Such beautiful fabrics!
Oooh yes please! I would happily increase my fabric stash!
My mum taught me how to do cross stitch when I was very young and then taught me how to use a sewing machine when I was older. I haven't looked back since.
Thanks.

Thanks for this giveaway!
My mom taught me how to sew, but I really became interested once I had my own kids.
pretty fabric prints *_* would love to win them.
i got interested in crocheting little toys first, then knitting followed and then sewing.
Beautiful fabrics! I took sewing lessons as a child, but they didn't really "stick." Then in college a friend said she needed a "quilting buddy" so she sucked me in and I haven't looked back!

My mom taught me to sew - she was the kind of gal who made ALL her own clothes when she was young. She still has some of her dance dresses from 1940s!
I started sewing about two years ago. Learnt most of it from blogs. I sew mainly bags and some clothes for my daughter. I've got lots to learn. Thank you for the chance to enter the giveaway.

Like a few others on this comment thread, i too was taught by my mom. my grandmothers mainly knitted, but my mom had a fascination with quilts so thats what stuck with me.
My mom used to sew when I was little and I remember getting a sewing machine when I was 5. I guess I dabbled at it for a while then in high school I took Home Ec and continued to sew. For my Grade 12 graduation in 93 my grandparents bought me a sewing machine. My sewing tapered off for a while but once I became a mama I started again and just love it!
Hi - I was taught sewing by my mother, grand and great grandmother who all sewed and quilted and did other hand work. Fun! Taught my daughter and we do it together.
Thanks for the chance to win!

I was taught sewing by my mom, and my 4-H leaders. What a great giveaway! Thank you :)
Gorgeous selection of fabric! I'm quite new to this wonderful world of quilting, and am already hooked! I made my first quilt last year, for my little sister who was moving to Australia - lots of wonky sewing and mis-matched seams, but I'm getting better!
thanks for the lovely giveaway!

Lovely giveaway, thanks for the chance to enter. Im a self taught sewer, and I honestly cant remember what got me started quilting.

Hi! Great giveaway. I have "learned" to sew three times. First my grandmother (the perfectionist began (and quickly gave up) teaching me all the "womanly crafts" when I was four or five. Then around twelve I taught myself the sewing machine and enrolled in home ec. I made some clothes, but then I was a teenager, and too busy. Finally, around maybe six years ago, I picked up all those crafts again, and had to relearn sewing. I think I'm pretty good with the basics., but I would love more time to practice.
Thanks for the chance!
Your fabrics are just lovely. I got interested in quilting when I was working as a student nurse in a psychiatric hospital (not the sort of thing you tell too many people!) I noticed that with a little patchwork, you could not only encourage the patients to do something creative for themselves, but it brightened up the day for everyone!
I HATED sewing at school, because I was forced to do it, when I really wanted to be doing computing and woodwork. But now that I have my own kids, the desire to learn from my grandmothers (and my husbands gran, who smocks beautifully), and be able to creat beautiful, unique clothes and gifts, is really important to me!
alissa222 at gmail com
I got interested in quilting when I won a free quilting class!
I really can't remember how or why I started sewing - no one in my family sews but i've always loved fabric!!
Gill
When my daughter was 6 I made her a patchwork robe and that started me into quilting and I have never stopped. She is now 40..
thanks for a chance at your giveaway.
jleibfried@aol.com
my mom just taught me to sew last year and now i'm learning to quilt from books and the internet. at this time a year ago i was terrified of my sewing machine. i thought the needle would eat my fingers.
I really didn't feel like I had a choice to be a quilter. When I was younger my mom taught me and I would make a wall-hanging or something else every year for 4-H for the county fair. I liked it sometimes and hated it other times. I would also make a garment and it usually brought me to tears at least once during the process!!
Then I learned how to knit... finally 7 years later I finished a sweater.
Anyway, long story short, after several years of thinking I'd be completely happy to never quilt again and just knit baby socks (small, much quicker to finish than a sweater!!) my friend posted a link to fabricworm on facebook after I had just joined. I went there... and suddenly was hooked. This was 7 months ago. I've made a quilted pillow for a friend's baby, and three projects over my spring break (I'm a college professor) and last week, when I should have been writing final exams - all I could think about was what quilt I was going to make this summer! yikes! I have the bug! But really, it's in my genes. My mom quilts, my grandma quilts and my other grandma sewed and knitted. :)
thanks for the opportunity to win!!

My sister got me into sewing! She started sewing a year and a half ago or so and talked me into it too. I just got my sewing machine for Christmas and so I've been sewing for a few months! It's been loads of fun and I'm glad to be learning more and more! Thanks for the chance to win!

I learned to sew in middle school, but my Nana, who passed away shortly before my wedding, really nutured this passion. I stopped sewing for a few years and recently got back to it and I am loving it. These fabrics are beautiful and would work well with my stash!

My mom taught me how to sew and quilt. Today, we're in a couple of VQBs together and love the compare projects! Great giveaway!
Thanks for the give away.
My Mom and Grandmother sewed, mostly clothes. My Mom and I have moved on to quilting and are sharing this love with my 2 daughters.
I decided one summer many years ago, that if our swedish summer rained away, I would make a quilt during my holiday. I had always loved them, but never owned one. It did rain, so I went online and found the information I needed to make a railfence lapquilt. I´ve been hooked ever since=)Thank you for this generous giveaway!
I was reading novels about quilters and their history - that got me into it :) I took an evening course to get started in 2008, and my teachers say they've created a monster, haha! They're right.
You've got a nice sense of colour picking those fabrics!

Oh thank you...these fabrics are every so lovely...and how dear of you to do this little give-away.
thank you so much for my chance...i simply cannot have enough fabric...really might need some conseling over this one...my mom sewed our clothes as children and i guess i watched enough to figure out how to quilt when i became a teenager. i love it. just love it.
Oh wow, I really hope I win this! Love these fabrics!
How I got started sewing: My first love is knitting, but one day I was surfing along on the internet and I noticed how much faster sewing seemed, and how adorable the cheery prints all were. So I kept looking and wishing I could sew and one day my mom gave me her old sewing machine! I started going to my local quilt shop for help, but for the most part I learned from blogs and books. That was it, I was hooked!
Love giveaway day...hate the pain it's causing my wrist! Adore your fabric selection so pain be darned! thx for sharing
My mom taught me how to quilt right before I moved away so that I would have a hobby to keep me busy. I fell in love with quilting and have enjoyed it for years now.
Thanks for giving!
melissacorry@hotmail.com
LOVE this! I've been quilting a little over a year now and what a great online community! xo
Love the fat quarters you are giving away!
My grandmother taught me how to quilt. I cherish the memories with her.
Hi, thanks for the giveaway! I started sewing because my boyfriend and I bought our first house last year and I wanted to have tons and tons of throw pillows for the new big white couch. I found out that all the pillow covers I loved were ridiculously pricey (over $200), so I bought a sewing machine and taught myself how to sew! I've since started quilting too and I love it!
i started seeing everyone making things online, and i knew i could do the same thing. i wish i could sew something every single day! thanks for a giveaway!
My sister and I made baby quilts for two friends about 10 years ago... it was the blind leading the blind.... we even had a system of one of us holding the fabric while the other applied the seam ripper! But we had fun!
Love the peach and gray.
yay! love fabric! I am a non-quilter, but learned quilting from my mom. The 'non' is slowly disappearing.

I babysat years ago for a woman who was taking a beginner's quilting course. Around the same time I visited my cousin who lives near a Mennonite community. I was entranced and have been ever since.
Thanks for the giveaway! I started sewing in middle school, because I wanted to have really awesome Halloween costumes, and my mother didn't know too much about sewing, so I taught myself.
ohhh what a fab give away the things i could make yummy!!!!
Lovely fabrics! I was inspired to start sewing by blogs actually! I remember reading and looking at all the pretty pictures and thinking "That looks really fun" I taught myself mostly, Books helped out a lot too :)
My mother taught me how to sew, and now I am teaching my daughter. Amazing fabrics!tara_hudson@yahoo.com
Great giveaway - thanks!
jmhamlin826 AT yahoo DOT com
Fabulous giveaway - thank you!
I had a friend let me borrow her sewing machine and teach me how to quilt, then she let me keep it!
Haha! My mom said she'd teach me but is too much of a control freak to EVER let me sit at her machine. So, when a bout of unemployment hit me with more free time than I cared to have, I sat down and started reading all these lovely blogs, checked Craig's list for a cheap machine, and started trying what I was reading. I will be forever greatful to all you folks who share your joy and expertise. Thanks for the chance to win.
Lovely fabrics (My favourite is the grey hope valley!!)
My grandma teached me a lot, she was already very old the (Over 80!), but I have learned so much... :) and nowadays I get so much inspiration, tips and tutes via internet!
I learned sewing in my middle school home ec class and didn't start again until after I graduated college. I started with a quilt (which was very adventurous of me) and haven't stopped since. I'm still not an expert, but I love picking up new skills with each project. Thanks for the giveaway!
I love those fabrics to bits. Thanks so much for the chance at such a great giveaway.

Gorgeous fabrics. My older sister and mother taught me how to sew when I was very little.
love me some amy butler and denyse schmidt!
Thanks for the cool giveaway! I first got interested in quilting after I won a giveaway for a stack of fat quarters from Anna Maria Horner. I can't remember why I was reading her blog, but I got lucky and won. So I figured I should make a quilt out of them!
I want these! I want this! I want it! I am a new sewer, and am terrified of patterns but not scared of youtube tutorials. which is not necessarily a good thing. I would love these for a summer nightie!! yes!! I think my husband would, too.
My mother taught me how to sew but I introduced her to designer fabrics and a horrible addiction.
Great giveaway!

My grandmother has quilted for as long as I can remember and I just picked it up somewhere along the way! Thanks!
Love all those fabrics! Fantastic! Thanks so much for the chance to win. I have been sewing around a year and am looking forward to see what you have made.

last year I quit my horrible job and decided to take a break... in the meanwhile I was thinking what to do for relax and then I told myself "why not sew?" .I never thought I would love so much this activity!!
I love these fabrics!!! I learned to sew from my mother. I did a little bit here and there until it grew into a full-blown obsession! :)

that is one of my favorite heather bailey prints!
I've always been a crafty person, but I learned to sew in high school :) my dad taught me - how awesome is that?
When I was four or five my grandmother, who was a curtain maker, let me start sewing (by hand) with her scraps. We made dolls, little clothes and even fun bags together. By the time I was 10, I was too cool to sew with Grandma anymore, but at 21 I decided to start costume making and use the skills my grandmother had taught me so long ago. Now I am addicted to quilting!

Great fabrics! I love the AB one. I have a polka dot obsession. :)
I have been quilting for 4 years now. My SIL had just learned how and taught me. I made a baby quilt for a friend and was hooked. My SIL no longer quilts but I am still going strong.

Lovely fabrics! I first got into quilting about three years ago to make a dorky video game quilt for my then-boyfriend (who is my now-fiance and my in-less-than-one-month husband!).

Thank you, thank you for a chance at such cuteness! Got interested in sewing for all my friends' babies, and now my own!
Great fabrics. My love of sewing started when I watched my mom make doll cloths when i was little.
My mom used to buy my clothes from Kmart like everyone else in the 70s and 80s, so I took a needle and thread to doctor them up. NOw I'm hooked.
cynsaw2@hotmail.com
I love that fabric. Thank you for the chance to win!
I got my interest in sewing through a "Kids can sew" program at the age of 6.
curry.jessica@gmail.com
I started sewing with my mom as a kid and just stuck with it! Thanks for the chance to win :)
I played with the thread spools when I was a kid and watched my mother sew. I wanted to sew since I was little, and I am always grateful for the talent.
Thanks for the chance...I love the fabric! I got started in sewing when I was in high school. I wanted a leather jacket for Christmas and I got a sewing machine instead. Now that we have boys, I don't sew as much, but I'm hoping to get back into it.
Grandma and Mom laid the groundwork as they both sewed forever! I recently took up interest (past 5 years) and LOVE it!
Thanks for the chance!

I got my rotary cutter for Christmas, 2009 and have been going every since. I love to make quilts for my kids ... it is the endless possibilities of quilts to make that makes me think i will be interested for a long, long time. Thanks for the giveaway!
love that fabric! great giveaway! thanks
Nice color choices. My mother in law taught me to sew and then bought me a sewing machine from a pawn shop for christmas! I love my MIL!
my mom taught me how to sew a few years ago, but it never really stuck. after i had my daughter last year, i really wanted to be able to make things for her, so i picked it back up. unfortunately, i don't know how to do a lot, but i'm learning as i go! luckily my mom isn't too far, so she can still help.
I walked into a quilt shop on a lark one day ... and walked out with a pattern, fabric for a quilt, tools, etc. I've been a certifiable addict since then. Denyse Schmidt's "Quilts" book added to the addiction.
miss_sarah_e_brown(at)yahoo(dot)ca
Great fabrics - thanks for the give away!
Good choices--you have very good taste! A friend told me about crazymomquilts and that was the end of it for me--my new obsession! And lucky me can now count her as my friend since she's coming back to CO again in November for her second quilting retreat!! Thanks for the chance to win!
How I learned to sew: My dad said, "Every girl should know how to sew." and he gave me a Bernina 830.
I was offended at first.
The Bernina collected dust.
I figured I should know how to work the damn thing and took a lesson at my local quilting shop.
Turns out, I'm a natural at making clothes and folloing a pattern.
Go figure!
Great giveaway! I have been teaching myself to sew since Christmas (when my hubby bought me a machine!). We have 3 daughters and there are SO many things you can make for little girls!!! (I can be contacted through my blog)
These are lovely, thanks!
ooh! amy butler!
that is very beautiful fabric. i got started quilting after shopping for fabric at a quilting store.
My mom taught me the basics of sewing when I was a kid, but I never did much other than sewing on a button. Then, when my 1st daughter was born, I had the sudden urge to make her a quilt. I figured it would be one thing and I'd move on to another crafty endeavor. It stuck! Now, I'm a fabric addict. (But I can quit anytime... for real.... it's not a problem...)
Thanks for the chance to enter!

great giveaway! i love those dots!
im not really sure what got me started in sewing. my mom says even as a kid i was always crazy about it, and was always begging to sew. no one knew why...i'm an enigma!
I'd made garments, dolls and all sorts of other things so in 1994 after trying to make a quilt without instructions, I purchased a quilt book and have been quilting ever since.
wow great giveaway! Would love to be the lucky winner. I started sewing after I had kids.
I love simple, traditional kids' clothes. Since they're simple, they're so easy to make, and I can make them just the way I want quickly and much more economically than ordering them from the more exclusive brands. Thanks for the great giveaway!
my mom bought me a sewing machine. it was a big deal as she did not have a lot of money. although i really wanted to sew, i didn't know how and had no grandmothers living anymore to teach me (mom doesn't sew). then my daughter needed a halloween costume and i knew just what i wanted to make. i broke out my machine and made it happen! then i found all these wonderful blogs and sewing sites and all the free tutorials out there. i have basically learned to sew (and other crafts) from the internet! crazy world.
I am self taught (not counting 7th grade home ec. when I made an apron). I have always had an "I can make that" philosophy when shopping and decided I wanted to learn to make tote bags etc. I also wanted to be able to hem my own pants, rather than paying someone 15 bucks a pair.
Thank you for the chance! Our local quilt shop owner got me started. I'm a cross stitcher and she carried threads I loved to use. Every time I went in she threatened to turn me into a quilter. And I laughed. Now I cringe when I think of the wasted time when I could have been buying fabric!
Love the fabric! I started sewing after my daughter was born, I needed some better burp cloths!
my my that fabric is beautiful!
Oh, how lovely, and your blog too is heavenly.
I became interested after shopping at a handmade market once for beads and stuff. I saw some fat quarters, bought them, and my sister asked, "What are you going to do with them?" "Um...make things!" I replied. I had no idea how to sew then (this was 1.5 yrs ago). I started learning by teaching myself from internet tutorials and books from the library. And I'm still learning all the time. :D
Lovely giveaway. I was very fortunate in that my mom and both grandmothers were all avid sewers! I also had sewing in 4-H and high school. Thanks for the chance.
Pretty fabrics. The photographs on your blog are great! knit1purljill (at) gmail (dot) com
My mother taught me as a child and then gave me a sewing machine for my college graduation. Since then, I've been using trial and error and loving it! I feel so creative!
What fab fabrics! Thanks so much foe the chance to win them :-) I did a bit of sewing when I was young, but really started properly when I had children, like mano others I guess! It must be something about becoming a mum that brings out dormant sewing genes or something!
My husband gave me a sewing machine a couple years ago for Christmas after I mentioned to him I wanted to learn to sew. I had no idea what to do with it or how to use it though! I started quilting after seeing a friend make a beautiful quilt for her daughter's first birthday. Thankfully with the internet I've been able to teach myself a lot!
aleighc1 @ yahoo . com
Count me in!! Great give away!
Thanks for the chance to win!! And it was my mom who taught me the love of sewing!!

Love these fabrics, thanks for the chance to win! I've been sewing since I was a kid, but started officially quilting when my mom and I took a course when I was a teen. I was (by several decades) the youngest person in the class, and was choosing much more modern fabrics. All the older women in the class tended to look at me sideways and make comments like "oh, look at your bold, crisp colours, you must be making that quilt for a man." Um, no. I still laugh about that today :-)

I have just caught the "quilting but" oh it is fun. thanks for the chance to win.

My grandmother used to quilt, no in the way we do that now, she wasn't even close to "Amish" I mean rustique, I always admired quilting since I was a child, but I didn't give it a try because I was scared to sewing machines, LOL, silly isn't it?, well now I love to quilt, I'm not a sewing machine specialist, but now I can sew in it at least!
pretty fabric!

Oh I love those colors together!! And I love mixing fabrics from different lines so I would be using these together!
I took a one-hour class about a year ago called "how to operate your sewing machine" - I was SO intimidated by a sewing machine, but was always curious. for years! I knew how to sew a button, etc. But WOW. It's like a whole world of creativity has opened up! I've been designing jewelry for 13 years, and had started transitioning into metalsmithing a few years ago - and now I must admit, everytime I go to my studio (ahem, the basement) I walk right past my jewelry workshop into the sewing area. I'm hooked!! :)
thanks for the lovely giveaway!
I started sewing recently be I wanted to make things for my children.

Great fabrics. I´ve learned by my grandma, she ´ve made wunderful things.
wOw! Such gorgeous fabric. fell in love with cotton few years ago. i'm pretty much a self-taught who spent the whole time admiring my mum's works or shall i say art work.
beautiful fabric!
I started on my own, I wanted to make pillows with applique on them. At the time I didn't even consider it quilting. Loved the creative outlet and started looking at more traditional quilting.
I learned to sew in Home ec in junior high school
Now you know I am old - - girls don't have to take home ec anymore
My mom always wanted a handmade quilt. So, I bought a Quilt In A Day book (log cabin) and went to work (secretly in the furnace room in the basement). I did not get it totally finished in time for Christmas. Which, in hindsight, was a blessing b/c my grandparents helped my mom and I put the top to the batting and backing and tie the quilt. That was, oh, 24 or so years ago!
Fab giveaway! Please enter me, thank you!

Nice fabrics ! I started sewing as a child &
never stopped ....my grandmothers were
both quilters. Thanks for participating.
My first sewing experience was in home ec! How I hated making that wrap around skirt! Then I took a class as adult and really started sewing when my son was born (so I could make those cute baby things)
Thanks for the giveaway!
