More Sketch Applique

I started this little quilt yesterday.


My apologies for the picture quality, it's a dreary day here. I've had this idea in my head since I was making the sketchy birds here, here, here, here, here and here.So I decided to make it in between quilts that I HAVE to get done.


I think she's pretty cute. I plan on making a couple more using prime colors. I used a piece of white vintage (grandma's) linen for the center piece.


The back is a piece from my stash. I ♥ pink and grey together!

Nine Patch Gifted

I spent a lovely afternoon on the Chesapeake yesterday. One of my best friends who I've known since we were 11 had her baby shower. I gave her the quilt I was starting in this post. She almost cried when she saw it. Which I am sure had something to do with pregnancy hormones but either way it makes you feel good when someone likes what you do, especially someone so special to you This is the only pic i got of it. I originally set the blocks on point. Then last minute i.e. Friday night into Saturday morning, I decided to rip it apart and add sashing. It all turned out great and I was pleased with the end result.

Habitat Quilt Finished

Just wanted to pop in and say I gave my SIL her quilt and she loved it. I finished it last Thursday but wanted her to see it before I posted pics.



This pic shows the wrinkle it had from the dryer, right through the middle. It was so big it didn't have much room to move in there. The wrinkle was easily smoothed out when we put it on the bed.


Here it is in it's new home :)

Quilt Tags / Labels

I am really bad about labeling the quilts I make. I know this is not good. There are a few, like the ones that I have made my kids that are labeled. I like the tag idea much better. Very simple. I did some searching on the net and found this little tutorial from Patchwork Pottery. I bought cotton twill tape in white and natural and 2 different sizes.


You need iron transfer paper too. I had one sheet left from ages ago so I thought this would be fun to try. Especially with cotton twill tape being 20 cents a yard! I used Paint to make the label look the way I wanted. Then you have to make sure you turn it into mirror image before you print.


Cut, place, iron!


There's your quilt tag. These are great for any handmade item.


I'm going to slip one under the binding of my next quilt. I want to play around more with different sizes and images. I think they're super cute!

Scrap Buster String Quilt

I decided to do some scrap management and at the same time try my hand at a string quilt.


Instead of using paper as the foundation to piece the block I used scrap batting cut into 7 inch squares.


When I trimmed down the excess fabric strips I left 1/4 inch beyond the batting square on all sides.


Then the blocks can be joined sewing right along the batting edge. I was initially going to add a backing piece to each square and make it a quilt as you go project but I got on a roll with these and forgot about the backing idea.


This is what I have so far. I have had so much fun sewing these. I love using my favorite scraps and every block is different. I want to make this one throw size, about 64 blocks.

Nine Patch Baby Quilt

This is what I'm working on today. Just a little Nine Patch for one of my best friends. She's having her first baby, a little girl, in May. They are having some antique furniture restored for the nursery. So I thought the quilt should be simple and traditional to go with it. Her colors are lilac and cream. I think this should fit in just fine :)

Can I just say again how much I LOVE the Nine Patch, so simple and perfect.
