Look at the difference in size!! Everything was cut the same. But I guess my ginger pressing and generous seam allowance while piecing made for a smaller quilt with the hand pieced one.

Twins (quilts that is...)
I finished my first, completely-by-hand quilt! I started this quilt with someone in particular in mind. As I was finishing it I realized although it was all hand done, it was not up to par. There are patches where my youngest thought she would imitate me and mark on them with the pencil I used to mark my 1/4 inch seam. I also noticed several "pulls" in the fabric where my knots were too big and they messed up the fabric when I pulled them through. So I decided to make the same quilt by machine for her. It's crisp and nice. I feel so much better sending this one off and knowing it won't fall apart in the washing machine.

I made a little fabric basket to hold the quilt. I used Ayumi's wonderful tutorial (my favorite) and some of the same fabric from the quilt with linen for the base and handles. I hope she likes it :)

Aww, so very nice. What a sweet gift that will be for its recipient. Crazy the size difference!!!
ReplyDeleteThey both look great! (And now you get to keep one!) The basket is a wonderful touch, too - great idea!
ReplyDeleteWell, gosh...I love this...always have. So old and soft. They are both awesome. Someone is very fortunate, indeed!!! Cuz, you know...you rock!
ReplyDeleteYour quilts are beautiful!!! What a great idea to make a basket for one as a gift!
ReplyDeleteBoth quilts are beautiful! I also love the little basket to put it in! How adorable!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure she'll love it! Nice work.
ReplyDeleteI made a quilt using blocks I hand sewed and some done by machine. I had a similar size problem, and it was a bit of a headache....
Interesting about the size difference! But both so cute! My daughter made me a little fabric basket using Ayumi's tute - I love it!
ReplyDeleteAre you kidding? Can it really be for me????!!! I think it (they) are the most beautiful lovely, soft looking quilts ever. And the bag? Oh oh oh. I still don't believe it, you'll have to email me again and tell me I'm not dreaming? If I'm not dreaming, thank you from the bottom of my heart. I'll treasure them forever. xo amy
ReplyDeleteThey are both beautiful! But you know, I think I prefer than hand sewn one! So much effort, so impressive!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!
ReplyDeleteYay for you! What dedication to success to finish something all handsewn! Love that you made a machine replica to give away. Me, I'm busy learning how to stay accurate with my machine and am not in that place, yet, of wanting to do anything handsewn. I truly admire those that do. Going to check out the little basket, what a great gift!
ReplyDeleteLove the little basket (those are fun to make) that matches the quilt for gift giving...Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteA quilt to keep and a quilt to give...worked out perfectly!
ReplyDeleteThey are both beautiful Erin and so is the log cabin block. Perfect.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! And what a great idea to put it in a basket!
ReplyDeleteWhen I first saw these quilts and the basket, I though, wow Amy will love these and just saw the Amy's comment that they are for her!! You are so sweet, Erin! They are such pretty gifts!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely quilt and basket! I've only ever hand pieced small, small projects. What a labor of love. It's been my experience that my machined quilted quilts always shrink much more than their hand quilted companions. I wonder why.
ReplyDeleteboth are gorgeous! i can't believe you made one of them completely by hand. that's impressive!
ReplyDeletep.s. i love those little fabric baskets by Ayumi, too!
