Here's an old farmhouse that I like too. It fits in just right with it's surroundings. I'm happy that these old buildings are still here and dot the landscape as we explore. I think it's the part of me that gets sad when old buildings are torn down to make new ones or worse yet, a parking lot ( I know, I sound like a Joni Mitchell song). These are allowed to just be. They're a little piece of someone's history. Maybe it was good, maybe it was bad. I don't know. I always imagine it good though.
This is what most of the roads look like. Seriously... just ask my mother in law. A GPS will not take you to most places around here and if you aren't from here, don't have a map or a good sense of direction you will get lost. My husband has a great sense of direction but sometimes we like to get lost on purpose.
There are hills and hollers galore. I wish my pictures could do it justice. God is good! His creation is beautiful.
Oh, yeah, did anyone lose a goat or five?
Happy Sewing (and exploring)!
xo Erin
Your pics bring me back almost 100 years. I'm not 100 but I grew up in a small village up north where time seemed to stand still. Your photos touched memories which were lovely to re-visit. Thanks for that.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photo's. We lived in western NC for six years and have some great memories from there.
ReplyDeleteLoved seeing your photos...
ReplyDeleteThis is all so beautiful! It's fun to imagine how things used to be. Maybe they sewed together with their Featherweights while eating their fried chicken. We will never know!
ReplyDeleteI love old abandoned buildings, too. There's just something about when people move out and nature moves in.
ReplyDeleteErin thank you for the beautiful pics. I really miss living in the country, but only 3 seasons out of the 4. Winter was always a challenge - when no outline of the road was visible - I had to remember - "Don't follow the snowmobile tracks, make sure they are CAR Tire Tracks". Ditches weren't car friendly! But I too loved that no GPS could find us in that piece of God's Country!!
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful pictures!! And the goats are too sweet! :) Have a lovely day!! xo Holly
ReplyDeleteAmazing scenery...so happy that you were able to capture the essence of your part of the world. God's creation, indeed!
ReplyDeleteYour pictures are so beautiful I just sighed when I looked through them. I know how you feel about seeing the old houses disappearing. Like a piece of history is being wiped away. Last year the people farming the field behind my parent's house bulldozed a stone fence (!) that has always been there. Seeing it in a pile made me feel like a testament to hard work and perseverance had been disrespected. Oh well ... times are a changing.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing such beauty! How lucky you are to live there.....and how wonderful that you appreciate it.
ReplyDeleteIsn't that a great old house. My dream home.....
ReplyDeleteBeautiful countryside. Autumn colors are so lovely and the old buildings could tell so many stories.
ReplyDeleteA lovely part of the world that I would like to see someday.
ReplyDeleteThose pics remind me of the area near Albany N.Y. where our friends live... It's been too long since we've visited, so seeing your view is like a quick trip in my memory - thanks!
ReplyDeleteAaaahhhhh. So perfect! Wish I lived there!!!
ReplyDeleteI was in Burkes Garden once. Your pictures kind of remind me of that area. Very pretty. Peacefully undisturbed.
ReplyDeleteThank you all! I am glad you like the pictures and they took some of you back for a minute! xo Erin
ReplyDeleteIt is breathtaking where you live, Erin!
ReplyDeleteErin, really love the pictures and love roaming around myself. Would love to know where those were taken......if you don't mind e-mailing me? We live in Georgia and I collect photos of old churches that I visit.....would love to have the opportunity to visit this one.
ReplyDeleteMichele.
Such pretty landscape. The picture of the winding road near the creek is like a story book scene in my imagination! Nothing at all like where I live in South Australia (flat, cropping farm land).
