I made another Sew Together Bag. This time I used a scrap I got of Heather Ross's VW campers from Katy on Instagram. I thought I would probably hoard this fabric forever! Turns out I needed another bag for my sewing stuff so I decided to use this little scrap I had. And I was able to get 3 ~ 3 inch squares from the scrap. Pretty good, I think! I may have mentioned we used to have a VW camper years ago when my husband and I were dating. Well, it was his and then we started dating and it became ours, ha, funny how that happens! It was really fun BUT if you have or have had an old VW you know that you are working on it as much as you are driving it or more even. So eventually we sold it. Traveled cross country. Came back, my dad gave me his VW Bug and that's what I drove for years. My dad also had a VW Super Beetle that he got after he gave me the Bug. So you see, we really like Volkswagons! Well, I still like them but I'm not to sure about the Hubs! He's worked on them way too often I think.
I love this fabric and love my new bag just as much as my little Bug! I quilted some big stitches around each block and on the zipper tabs.
I wanted to keep the colors simple. For the sides and binding used some hot pink gingham and hot pink Swiss Dots both by Riley Blake.
For the inside I used the Swiss Dots again and Moda's Dottie Tiny Dots. I got the tiny dots from Shay's shop Simply Sweet Fabric. I'm pretty happy I didn't break any needles this time. My walking foot fell apart though so I have to work on that. Now, to go fill 'er up and get back to work!!!
Happy Sewing!
xo Erin

ReplyDeleteGorgeous bag. We did the same thing with the VW camper, when we had it people used to wave and come up and say that they used to have one. But the money and time to fix it was too much, so now we have a newish vw camper!

ReplyDeleteThis is the cutest bag ever! I love it! I finally broke down (like the van? LOL!) and bought the Sew Together bag pattern from Sew Demented. I have printed it out and am now mulling over what fabrics to use. Did you see the free Tula Pink VW van pillow pattern on her site? She re-posted it on IG and FB today. That's cute too!
